W.L. (Bill) Grayden, AM Life member and President

Bill was born on 05/08/1920 at Bickley WA. He was educated at various schools in WA, England and Victoria, spending significant time on Phillip Island.

At the outbreak of war, and after two attempts to join up, being successful when ‘fudging ’his age on his second attempt, Bill saw service with the 2/16th Battalion in all its campaigns, Syria, Kokoda, Ramu Markham Valley, Balikpapan and the Celebes, rising quickly through the ranks to Captain. He also served over forty-three (43) years combined in the WA State Parliament and the Australian Federal Parliament. He today still holds the record for the longest serving member of Parliament in Western Australia. Bill had the privilege of serving in the Robert Menzies ’government and also sitting in the Federal Parliament with our WW11 Prime Minister, John Curtin, a fellow Western Australian and WW1 Prime Minister Billy Hughes.
