The 2/16th Australian Infantry Battalion was formed in Western Australian but after returning to Australia following the Middle East campaign the battalion was reinforced with men from Victoria. There were 280 Victorian reinforcements in the 2/16th Battalion. Many of these veterans were with other Battalions in the Middle East but saw service in the Kokoda and northern beaches campaigns with the 2/16th Battalion. After the Owen Stanleys Campaign further reinforcements were brought in from NSW.
Today the 2/16th Battalion Association is represented in VIctoria by Mr Trevor Ingram. Trevor has been the represetative for over a decade and works hard to keep the association active even though there are only a few surviving veterans.
It is now mainly the families of the veterans that attend the reunions at Fern Tree Gully, where there is a Memorial Walk Trail and a Wall Of Honour.
